An interesting bit of info recently crossed my desk, from a site called ‘nugs.net.’ I’m rather surprised I’ve never heard of them before, since they seem to be addressing a market I’ve long wondered about the feasibility of: Live performance streaming.

Hot on the heels of RMAFs cancellation, as well as the cancellation of pretty much every other show in 2020, Lou Hinkley of Daedalus Audio and Gary Gill of Capital Audio Fest have recently announced the Pacific Audio Fest, to be held near Seattle in 2021.

Fiona Apple’s newest Album Fetch the Bolt Cutters has been causing quite a stir in the popular music world and is proving to be a bit of an enigma for many folks. I’ve had enough folks request I shed some light on what’s going on that I figured it was worth doing a full breakdown of the album. We’ll be looking at everything: composition, lyrics, production, sound quality - the works.

There’s endless discussion to be had about the sonic intricacies of digital software coding, but I don’t think that will be particularly interesting for any but the most technically obsessive amongst us. Instead, I decided a comparison of sorts would make for a more compelling write-up.

I’ve just recently moved to the West Coast, so when Focal reached out and informed Rafe and myself of a new store opening in Phoenix Arizona, it was a serendipitous coincidence of interest too good to pass up. I had a friend once who when asked if she believed in coincidences replied ‘well of course, somebody has to plan them!’

Capital AudioFest this year, as I’ve mentioned, was a show that was heavily skewed towards vinyl, but I think in a certain sense this emphasized the role digital plays in the life of many modern audiophiles.

David Solomon of Qobuz North America has become a familiar face at domestic audio shows the past few years, and for good reason, he’s one of the friendliest, most enthusiastic and all around fun guys in the industry – even amongst the young-at-heart crowd.
