It's that time of year for holiday cheer; our annual Holiday Gift Guide. Chock full of treats for the young and young at heart, I hope you enjoy window shopping through 2017's picks as much as I enjoyed pickin' 'em. Ho, ho, ho!

I have been thinking of authoring another installment of Lovely Recordings but have not yet had the time to sit down and do so. However, there is one recent release which is so good in terms of the music, musicianship and sound quality that it deserves a mention on its own...

Mono No Aware is the first compilation album from the folks at PAN and it's a shimmering doozy. Featuring Jeff Witscher, Helm, TCF, Yves Tumor, M.E.S.H., Pan Daijing, HVAD, Kareem Lotfy, ADR, Mya Gomez, Sky H1, James K, Oli XL, Bill Kouligas, Flora Yin-Wong, Malibu, and AYYA, there's over an hour of earthly and unearthly ambient, beautifully colored light and dark.

More or less, we all live in fantasyland. Marvin Pontiac was born there and The Asylum Tapes have sprung forth like a breath of fresh freedom.

From Ayre:
With heavy hearts, we regret to inform you that Charles Hansen, founder of Ayre Acoustics, has passed away on November 28th, 2017. Those who knew Charley knew that he was a passionate man who always stood up for what he believed to be right. His family knew him as a loving and dedicated father of his two children. With the passing of Charley, the world has lost one of the most creative and innovative minds in the audio industry and we have lost a good friend.

While we can never replace Charley, his spirit lives on in the team at Ayre. We are dedicated to continuing his mission of creating and manufacturing the best sounding audio equipment in the world. Most importantly, we will be there for our friends, partners, and customers who have supported us over the years. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at any time.

We wish you all the best over the holidays, and please play an album for Charley sometime.

Yes, I freely admit to loving Christmas music. Come Thanksgiving it's pretty much all I play until after New Year's Day. To sustain myself that long, I've had to collect a wide variety beyond the usual fare that gets played on the radio. For this list I've omitted the chestnuts everyone knows; no Vince Guaraldi "A Charlie Brown Christmas", no Nat King Cole or Bing Crosby, although I love all that stuff too. I have about 2500 Christmas tracks, mostly ripped from CDs, and I could easily include many of them here. But these are the some of the ones I turn to first when the season comes.
