Initial reports from CES 2018 are not good. Here's Stereophile's Jon Iverson:
This year high-end audio occupies only one floor of the Venetian, and there are just a couple exhibitors in the suites above. The Mirage is also down to a couple suites and around town is particularly quiet. So I'd say we are operating at less than 30% of peak CES.

I've wanted to share a "Lovely Recordings" post for months, but it wasn't until a recent trip to Sri Lanka that I finally pulled it together. The trip provided the space to revisit my favorite albums from 2017, including older albums that I learned about from blogs like this one and recommendations from friends. Music not only provides a context to our experiences—like, when traveling, zipping from hill country, to jungle, to plateau, to beach, to city—but it enables us to tweak and optimize the moment by selecting the perfect album or track. Like switching out a source, power cable or interconnect, music allows you to fine tune the color and adjust tone. I hope the choices offered up here provide you with ample options, whether for trips to exotic locales or for lazy evenings alone with your audio rig. Bon voyage!

Just what the Dr. ordered. The past few weeks have been fraught with sickness; first Jess, then us. This is the cold that won't go away as I'm into week 3. Yea, I went to the Dr. who had a full waiting room of walk-ins all there with the same thing, who prescribed an antibiotic and something for the vertigo, which should help with the nausea. As such, I've been searching out soothing from my local and Tidal-enhanced music library.

"It's her nose." Imagine reading a critical analysis of da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" and said analysis of the painting's enduring popularity was pinned on her nose. Ridiculous right? (the answer is yes, that's ridiculous). Imagine reading a review of a DAC and the critical analysis pinned its performance on the D/A chip. That's equally ridiculous.

"A thing of beauty is a joy for ever" John Keats on the Leben CS600

The Leben CS600 has been in production since 2005. This is either great news or not, depending on your point of view. In audiophileland, especially in hi-fi reviewerville, the search for the newest-best-thing is often the focus. In real life, that's not such a great thing.

If you don't know about Milford Graves, you want to. We've talked about Milford before; his healing powers and his music but these things only skim the surface of very deep waters.
