dCS Announce Updated Software for Network Bridge

Remote updates strike again.

Twenty years ago, the very idea that we’d allow a corporation unfettered access to our digital entertainment products, music hardware, or our refrigerators or televisions would have seemed positively Orwellian.

Not so today in this future-fi world where we stream millions of songs and albums from the Cloud via any smartphone, tablet or PC and we can update not only the software we use to control our DACs, servers, or streamers, but the firmware that governs their very hardware abilities as well.

We welcome the Mothership into our musical living space as digital-audio enthusiasts with open arms. Why? Because it makes our lives easier and (usually) enriches the sonic and interactive experience of music playback for us.

And so it is once again that Data Conversion Systems (dCS) today announced updated software available for download tomorrow ( 9 a.m. GMT February 27, 2019) for their digital Swiss Army Knife known as the dCS Network Bridge which debuted in early 2017 and continues to impress with features such as:

  • Streamlined FPGA-based design.
  • Accepts data from UPnP, asynchronous USB-on-the- Go and Apple Airplay.
  • Streaming services supported include TIDAL, and Spotify Connect.
  • Roon ready.
  • Optional down-sampling to match legacy DACs.
  • Auto clocking system improves ease of use and minimizes jitter.
  • Multi-stage power regulation isolates digital and sensitive clock circuitry.
  • Firmware-upgradeable from the internet for future functionality and performance upgrades.
  • MQA™ Core Decoder unfolds the MQA™ file once to deliver even higher than CD-quality. The first unfold recovers all the direct music-related information. Output is 88.2kHz or 96kHz.

Updates include the following:

  • Main Board: 1.02
  • Network Board: 406

The update to the main board includes the following fixes:

  • Corrected an issue where the front panel LED would not flash after certain firmware update operations.
  • Improved the reliability of messaging between the FPGA and network card.
  • Improved performance during track transitions in Roon.
  • Improved the behaviour of seek operations in Roon when playing MQA content.
  • Several bug fixes and minor enhancements.

The update process can be initiated from within the dCS Network Bridge app with the following steps:

  • From the main screen of the dCS app tap on the wrench or gear icon in the upper right corner.
  • Tap on the ‘Information’ button
  • Tap on ‘Version’
  • Tap on ‘Check for Updates’
  • The user will be prompted to download and install the update
