“Strange things are afoot at the Cirlce-K.” – Ted, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. A relatable quote if you’ve ever been to a hi-fi trade show and tried to make sense of hundreds of rooms full of stereo equipment.

Azalea is one of my favorite slow jazz/swing numbers ever – Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington flow like honey on a hot summer day if you’re listening to it on the right system.

Fatigue is something you have to be mindful of at a show, like, well, T.H.E. Show. There’s a lot of listening rooms on multiple floors and as a reviewer you’re constantly hustling, so you need to be mindful to pace yourself, otherwise you’ll suffer the consequences of fatigue.

It would be difficult to exaggerate Angelo Badalamenti’s contribution to David Lynch’s body of work. Unlike other director/ composer teams like Alfred Hitchcock and Bernard Herman or Stephen Spielberg and John Williams, where the music was written to existing film, this collaboration began when the stories were still part of Lynch’s meditations.

The ability to present the 3D-image of a recorded vocalist like Frank Sinatra in a startlingly realistic spatial and timbral manner was one of many initial sonic impressions of the LampizatOr Pacific Balanced DAC that, like harshly-lit craters on the lunar surface when viewed at night from Earth, stood out in bold relief to me compared to other DACs I am familiar with.
