Sunny Murray is largely credited for putting the "free" in jazz drumming. He passed earlier this month, on December 7, at the age of 81 in Paris, France, his home.

I pity the speaker buyer who doesn't spend due time setting up their speakers; finding the best-sounding spot. If you don't spend real time moving your speakers around, even on your desktop, finding the spot where they, and you, sing, you're wasting your hard-earned money.

I have been thinking of authoring another installment of Lovely Recordings but have not yet had the time to sit down and do so. However, there is one recent release which is so good in terms of the music, musicianship and sound quality that it deserves a mention on its own...

Mono No Aware is the first compilation album from the folks at PAN and it's a shimmering doozy. Featuring Jeff Witscher, Helm, TCF, Yves Tumor, M.E.S.H., Pan Daijing, HVAD, Kareem Lotfy, ADR, Mya Gomez, Sky H1, James K, Oli XL, Bill Kouligas, Flora Yin-Wong, Malibu, and AYYA, there's over an hour of earthly and unearthly ambient, beautifully colored light and dark.
